About the
Music for Peace Concert
Martha Argerich, a world-class pianist with a belief of “Music against Crime” feels that music can nurture people to love and will eliminate the feeling of people wanting to hurt each other, sympathizes with the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra’s theme of “Music for Peace”. Meeting with her became a springboard for us to start the “Music for Peace Concert” project with musicians from around the world in order to deliver a message of musical culture and peace to the world.
In 2020, the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held, it will also be the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II which was a turning point in history, and in addition it is also the 250th anniversary year of Beethoven’s birth, the person who rejoiced that “all people become brothers”. It can be said that Beethoven’s Symphonies are the Bible for orchestral music, we have been playing his Symphony No. 5 through his ninth Symphony in order. We will be sending our message from Hiroshima aiming for further cultural creation in 2020 and beyond.
Peace and Music Ambassador for the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra
Martha Argerich
Martha Argerich is a pianist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She began playing the piano when she was five years old under the tutelage of Vincenzo Scaramuzza, and immediately began to show herself as a child prodigy. She is one of the pianists who has received the highest acclaim in the classical music world. She has called the atomic attacks in World War II and the Holocaust as the most horrific crimes in human history. She has chosen to take on the title of Peace and Music Ambassador for the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra and together we are sending the message of peace to the world.
